As a former WFAN addict and as someone who for nearly 15 years went to sleep to either Steve Somers or Joe Beningo in the overnight show, I used to love hearing Doris from Rego Park call in almost every single night.
Doris is no longer with us and the build up to the Mets season lost a little but of its heart.
I wonder what Doris would have thought about her obit in the New York Times and her posthumous tributes.
This song from Don Rosler sums up what we all loved about Doris.

Doris was a great, knowledgeable caller. She knew her team COLD. There was little about the Mets that got by her, and she cared deeply about them, good years, and bad. She was also as much a part of the WFAN airwaves as any of the hosts.
ReplyDeleteLove the 2:10 PM posting above. Love that the NY Times posted their blog at 2:10 A.M. Love your words about Doris as well, Sully.
ReplyDeletePure art!!!
ReplyDeletePaul,
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning piece. I only wish that Doris could have heard it. Thank you.
