Five Years Ago Today, Three Things Happened

Pudge Rodriguez tagged out San Francisco's J. T. Snow at the plate to clinch the 2003 Division Series for the Marlins.

Trot Nixon hit an 11th inning walk off home run to win game 3 of the Division Series for the Red Sox.

The beautiful and amazing Lisa agreed to marry me.
5 years later and Pudge and Trot have long since left their 2003 teams... but Lisa is still with me.

And she revealed to my surprise during the ceremony that there was a home plate in front of the Justice of the Peace and she pulled out a glove and ball. In front of all of our friends and relatives she threw me a pitch.

Appropriately it was a perfect strike.

The Mets youth movement is underway with

Trot Nixon?

Really?

Is the Mets minor league cupboard really this bare?

Look I love Trot, the man who hit a walk off home run in the playoffs during my wedding.

But come on!
In a season that the Mets have already extended the baseball reference entry for Fernando Tatis and dusted off Robinson Cancel for the first time since 1999, are you really tellingg me their best answer at this critical time is Christopher Trotman Nixon?

Willie Randolph's job should be secure and Omar Minaya should be the one looking at craigslist for a new gig.

I wish you luck Trot.
But MAN!

There is something just wrong about losing a playoff game to Trot Nixon

Borderline cruel.

Man, like every Red Sox fan I thought Youk was going to single home Ellsbury after fouling off 4,818 pitches.

And like every Sox fan I was praying Papi or Manny would launch one before Gagne came in.

Well... you didn't think it was going to be easy, did you?

Now it is up to Dice-K or Wakefield to win a game in Cleveland.
It's a series now!

In honor of Trot Nixon...

... one of the few home grown Red Sox on the 2004 World Champions

... one of the original Dirt Dogs and Lou Gorman's last thumbprint on the team

... whose 2 run double broke the Cardinals back in the clinching game 4.

... and who ended Game 3 of the 2003 Division Series with a walk off home run, a game that we were watching during my own wedding (much to the chagrin of my wife!)

THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 7!
