Assuming Tampa can win 17 of their last 53 games to finish above .500, the Pirates would be the only team to not break even a single season since the divisions expanded in 1994.
In a potentially dead trade market, Pittsburgh was one of the few teams with trade chips that people wanted. A solid outfielder like Xavier Nady... a reliever with October experience like Damaso Marte and an All Star caliber hitter like Jason Bay.
And they dealt them all... and didn't get a single top flight prospect for any of them.
Mediocre prospects all, including the Red Sox's Craig Hansen who as it turned out was NOT the effective reliever
I thought he was becoming.
