Well a night where the Red Sox and Yankees played a combined 20 innings, it is nice to know they had one more comeback and one more walk off win.

Granted it was the Red Sox JV team beating the Yankees JV team... but think of THIS, lovers of Schadenfreude... if the Rays win a game against the 94 loss Kansas City Royals tomorrow, they will be AL East Champs.

And if the Yankees have to play a game 5 of the Division Series or Game 7 of the ALCS on the road, they can remember a night when they were pooped and had Ivan Nova chucking meatballs to Bill Hall.

Seriously, Youk gets hurt, Lowell comes back and BAM! Sox take the lead, Lowell makes a nice play in the field, Beckett looks dominating and the Red Sox beat Cleveland.

It's 2007 all over again!

OK, probably not. We'll probably have a MUCH different result. Yeah I know Lowell and Hall are essentially replacing Youk and Pedroia right now and they both homered last night. But the Sox are still a little too far back to realistically make a run at this.

But as long as they keep winning and the Yankees keep dropping games to Toronto... who knows?

Welcome back, Beckett

Seeing Josh Beckett on the mound again was a welcoming sight... and having him pitch better than the Josh Beckett of early 2010 was even MORE welcoming.

When I saw the Mariners scored a first inning run off of him, I thought "uh oh."
But who would have guessed he had a decent game in him. Granted, not a near no hitter like John Lackey... but a nice addition to the team.

And oh yeah, a Bill Hall homer that was barely fair wins the damn thing.

Seriously... when you are facing a team that is on pace to lose 90 some odd games and you jump ahead to a 3-0 first inning lead... it should be a blow out.

It should be a massacre.

There should be an infielder pitching late in the game.

And alas it was... FOR THE ROYALS!

Really, Wakes. I'm not saying you need to throw shutout ball... but isn't 5 runs enough?

I really didn't want Bill Hall to be the Red Sox most effective pitcher for the evening.

Now they have to be perfect to SPLIT with the Royals. REALLY? THIS is how you build on the great stretch that got them back INTO this season.

April 4 - 9-7 win against Yankees (On Opening Night, the Red Sox overcome a 5-1 Yankee lead with a game tying HR by Pedroia and a go ahead passed ball.)
April 10 - 8-3 win against Kansas City (Beckett out pitches Zack Greinke and nearly gets decapitated by a line drive.)
April 14 - 6-3 win in Minnesota. (Okajima gets Morneau to pop up with the bases loaded in the 7th and Papelbon wiggled out of a 9th inning jam.)
April 20 - 7-6 win against Texas. (Darnell McDonald introduces himself to Boston with an 8th inning game tying homer and a walk off hit in the 9th.)
April 21 - 8-7 win against Texas. (The Red Sox were down 4-0 early only to win it on Youk's 2 out 11th inning double.)
April 23 - 4-3 win against Baltimore. (The Sox blow a 3-0 lead but win it on Adrian Beltre's bases loaded walk.)

What is this "Red Sox blow out" you speak of?

I don't believe it.
The Red Sox actually won a blow out game.

As in "the game was not in doubt late."
As in "the Red Sox took a 13 run lead into the 9th inning."
As in "they were able to rest Bard, Okajima and Papelbon in the game."
As in "no need to update the Teeth Grinder/Dodged Bullet tally."

Now the Red Sox did everything in their power to MAKE it interesting. Buchholz struggled in the 6th.

Schoeneweis let up 4 in the 9th to make his ERA ugly.

But after the ugly weekend in Baltimore, it is nice to see the Red Sox unload, pad some stats (four players had 3 or more RBI) and Adrian Beltre got his first Red Sox homer. Even Bill Hall hit one out!

A stress free victory... against a team a team that has won 5 of 6 division titles no less.

I can get used to victories like this.
(I am not counting on them, but I can get used to them.)

Utility man Bill Hall finally got his first hit as a member of the Red Sox. He was 0-10 before lining a single off of Rays pitcher Jeff Neimann.

I personally can't believe they didn't stop the game, set up a microphone and have Bill address the crowd.

No doubt the ball is on its way to Cooperstown.

If he gets one more hit, he will match his error total for the year.
