Now keep in mind that is 161 to eliminate the Blue Jays and the Orioles, who also are 1-0.
The magic number to eliminate the winless Rays and Yankees is 160.
We went into today wondering about Josh Beckett...
And he gave us Sox fans 7 innings, 1 run and 10 strikeouts.
We went into today wondering about Ortiz's swing. He singled and walked.
We went into day wondering if there was anything left in Lowell's tank. He drove in a run today.
We went into today wondering about Drew's swing. He doubled home a run.
We went into today wondering if Varitek was an automatic out. He homered.
We didn't wonder about Pedroia, Youkilis nor Papelbon.
Pedroia homered, Youk got a pair of hits and scored and Papelbon threw a perfect ninth for the save.
Now, of course it's only one game. And praising a team after one game is as crazy as burying them after one, except for one thing:
This is a game against a division rival. Win these games now and there's no need to catch up later.
Besides, I'd rather say "Don't get too excited" rather than "Don't get too depressed!"
161... and counting.
Look at Lisa's Does having a bad Yankee debut really doom a player for Yankee fans in Subway Squawkers blog today. But I used to do the magic Number thing with the Yankees in the Glorious 60s days.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of the Red Sox. Been tired of the Yanks too. Hell, I'll probably be tired of the Rays soon enough too. When is it the Jays or O's turn?
ReplyDeleteMaybe last year was not a fluke, Maybe, just maybe the Rays have the Sox number. Alot of people were saying that with the rays and Sox playing each other alot early and the way the yankees always get off to a slow start that the Red Sox could have a big lead by Mid-May, But maybe the Rays may have the big lead. (Just Maybe)
