Thoughts, lists and other compulsive bits about baseball from comedian filmmaker television producer/Red Sox fan Paul Francis Sullivan....
feel free to call him “Sully.”
In today's podcast, I talk about manager of the year and the idea of East Coast Bias. Then I take a look at the insane trade brewing between the Marlins and Blue Jays.
I'm not buying the East Coast bias claim, either. Bob Melvin won this year's award over Buck Showalter... both were certainly worthy candidates and Melvin won and I'm ok with that but folks on the East Coast could certainly contest that Showalter deserved the award (he earned my proverbial vote) - the Orioles didn't just get hot and get in... they were contenders all season.
As for Bochy... he's a worthy candidate and probably deserved to be second on the official list but Davey Johnson led the Nationals to the best record in baseball - the Nationals haven't been to the playoffs since 1981 when they were the Expos. Davey had to deal with a ton of injuries, too... Mike Morse, Ryan Zimmerman, Jesus Flores, Jayson Werth, Drew Storen... in my opinion, he managed the balls off of that team and deserved the award. As for who finished second... who cares!
