IF THE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS STARTED TODAY... September 23, 2008

Like one of those magic eye pictures, the playoff picture is starting to get clearer the more you look at it.

It's looking less and less like the Red Sox nor the Mets will be winning a division crown although the Diamondbacks are not going quietly.

Let's look at the match ups that we will see if the playoffs started Tuesday morning:

DIVISION SERIES (Best of 5)

AMERICAN LEAGUE
AL West Champion Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
versus
AL Wild Card Winner Boston Red Sox
(Home field advantage to the Angels)

AL East Champion Tampa Bay Rays
versus
AL Central Champion Chicago White Sox
(Home field advantage to the Rays)

NATIONAL LEAGUE
NL Central Champion Chicago Cubs
versus
NL Wild Card Winner New York Mets
(Home field advantage to the Cubs)

NL East Champion Philadelphia Phillies
versus
NL West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers
(Home field advantage to the Phillies)

I say the integration of baseball shows any talk of a thin talent pool is a bunch of bunk

SCHRODINGER'S BALL by Adam Felber

My friend Adam Felber is many things...
He's a writer for Real Time with Bill Maher.
He's one of the stars of NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.
He's written for children's shows like Wishbone.
And he's a good if smug Yankee fan.

He also wrote Schrodinger's Ball, a hilarious and borderline indescribable book about a cat that may or may not be dead, a woman whose orgasms have to be seen to be believed, a war against America started by Montana, musicians who shouldn't handle guns all taking place in Cambridge Massachusetts.

Trust me, read it and thank me later.
