IN HONOR OF JOHNNY LeMASTER...
The man drafted #6 over all in 1973 (waaaay ahead of Fred Lynn and Eddie Murray)... The man whose fielding was so dreadful that it became legendary... The man who tried to defuse the hostile fans by wearing the name "BOO" on his uniform... The man who basically personified the frustrating late 1970s of the Giants...
Thank you for this. Johnnie Lee was always my favorite ~ so bad, he was good. I still think of getting his #10 jersey just to roust those Chardonay-sipping snoots who call themselves fans at AT&T. God bless the 'Stick and us frozen bastards still thawing.
"Johnny Lee" is what he was called by radio, guys like Lon Simmons & Hand Greenwald. I remember that as a youth because my mom ALWAYS had the Giants game on the radio. At the end of Johnny's time with the Giants, I was more aware of players & what they can & can't do. The 1 thing I remember most is that he weighed 170 pounds & couldn't hit his weight.

ReplyDeleteScully,
ReplyDeleteHow many years did you play in the major leagues? How much money did you make?
First of all it is Sully
ReplyDeleteSecondly, none.
LeMaster was a cool dude who knew that people would boo his play and did his best to defuse it.
The whole "You never played so you can't boo or criticize" is a strange and illogical strawman argument.
But thank you for reading the blog
