DING... DONG... DING... DONG... The Pujols bell has rung
Noon on the East Coast has come and gone. Albert Pujols has NOT resigned.
Worst mistake the Cardinals ever made was not getting this locked up.
That being said, if ONE SINGLE Cardinal fan boos Pujols, shame on you. I wrote this a year ago and I stand by it: Albert Pujols owes the Cardinals and their fans NOTHING... not even an extension.
Would I boo him because he didn't resign? No, it's a free country. But I WILL boo him because he turned down $200 million+. I will boo him long and hard for that.
I'm a lifelong Cardinal fan. It's become increasingly obvious that Pujols wants to be paid what he's worth, and I don't fault him for that. It's also become increasingly obvious that the Cardinals don't have the budget to pay him 90% of what he's worth and field a winning team.
That being said, it's more important to me to see the Cardinals field a winning team than to see Albert Pujols continue to march to the HOF in a Cardinal uniform. Therefore, I will hope against hope that the Cardinals can work something out with him before he signs elsewhere. But I will enjoy what I know might be his last year in a Cardinal uniform and jump all over anybody that calls him greedy for simply asking for what he's worth.

ReplyDeleteNope... not even for that.
ReplyDeleteNo Cardinal fan can ever do that.
