Are the A's Three Sheets To The Wind?

Seriously? The most frugal organization NOT called the Marlins opened up their wallets for a free agent and it was for Ben Sheets?

$10 million on a guy who didn't pitch a game last year?

Yes, he is a talented pitcher when healthy... but he's NEVER healthy!

Let me repeat... HE PITCHED ZERO GAMES LAST YEAR!

Do you know who tied him in EVERY SINGLE statistical category?

Professor Stephen Hawking!

If Sheets stays healthy then the A's would have stolen an ace...
And if Milton Bradley doesn't become more erratic than Joe Pesci in Casino, then the Mariners will do well.

And you don't have to be a genius like Professor Hawking to see those odds are astronomically small.

  1. I agree it was a bad, and he is making 10 million!!! Thats what blows my mind, this team wont pay anyone usually.

  2. Another gamble in the free agent market. He either gets paid $10 million to have a bad/injured season... or if he does well, he will get traded at the break (hopefully for some bats). The A's are well-stocked in pitching prospects though, so even if he does get hurt... you're just losing money.

The signing didn't make sense either, but nothing Beane has been doing lately has been making sense to me.
